U HAUL AGAINST EXPLORERS!!!!

It's all about lawsuits. They are attempting a CYA because of all the recnt press and unGodly settlements that Ford and Firestone are shelling out.

Who was it that said "kill all the attorneys?

Me Me LOL..

"First, we kill all the lawyers!"

W.Shakespeare - Henry the 5th

Who was it that said "kill all the attorneys? [/B]

Today, I saw a Sport Trac pulling a U-Haul trailor that said" U-Haul Sport" on it.. Im not too sure how the guy pulled that one off. Are they restricting the sport trac also? The trailor was no bigger than a large suitcase. Does the size of the trailor matter?

I hope U-Haul loses all of their business. This is BS. As many of us have already stated.

from Dolphan
but you can use this hitch to haul any other trailer you desire. I looked at getting the hitch from Uhaul installed for $149 or buying the Reese hitch at Autozone for $99 and installing it myself. Regardless of who/how/where you get a hitch it is still functional is it not?

True enough, but there is the little function of "expressed use". A majority of people who have bought a U-haul hitch have done so with the intent of renting a U-haul trailer. That being said, In a court of law I would state I purchased the receiver from U-haul with the intent of renting various trailers from U-haul from time to time. U-haul has now discriminated against me and all Explorer owners by rescinded the renting of any tow trailer for Explorer owners. This retraction of expressed use is not based on safety issues, but on a "Business Decision". If they won’t rent me a trailer then I don’t want their receiver equipment on my vehicle.

What is next? Insurance companies pressuring tire companies not to sell us tires? Some retailers have already refused to mount non-standard size tires on Explorers.

Wow, this is truely amazing. I have been disgruntal for years at UHaul for various reasons. Still going back due to lack of other options for one time use trailers. Last year when we went back home (Oregon) from current duty station (Mountain Home AFB, Idaho) we had to get a trailer to bring back all the crap from Christmas. The total bill was $86 for a 6X12' enclosed trailer. This year I only needed a small 4X6' trailer. When I went to them last week, I didn't get any issue for being an Explorer pilot but the run around about finding a trailer that was no longer available. I went to the next city (20 miles) to get the damn trailer and now the price was $160 for the 4x6 which was supposed to be only $40. Needless to say I told him where that trailer could fit, unhooked it and left it there. I shipped my junk home via FedEx (UPS = UHaul) for a fraction of the price. I had considered purchasing one of the $199 specials from Bi-mart or Harbor freight but then as soon as I got home I would have chopped the thing up to build a 5X6 off road trailer with a 5 lug axle anyway.

Needless to say, nobody said anything to be about not being able to tow with my explorer. In their defence, not many people can recognize my truck as an Explorer. :D:D:D

This just ended my relationship with UHaul for good and will be in contact with Ford and UHaul. Thanks for posting the information.

Nice read....

OK someone has posted several names, addresses and emails. What is the plan?
Is the request - to have everyone write individually these people and voice their displeasure. Would it not be better to have one letter with 1000's of signatures - given there are 20K registered users on this BB. Is there someone in particular at Ford we should also copy on our distribution?

If Rick's site was not mentioned in any way like he said then we could all go for it, but it is a lot easier to delete one email than it is to delete 20,000 emails thats for sure....well maybe not, but hopefully the volume of hate mail would get noticed atleast.

Are there any other trailer rental places that rent one-way trailers? Surely U-haul is not the only one?!

-Jason

Thats the problem-
there are only a few places that rent one-way. U-Hell cornered the market. Local rentals/ return to origination places are a lot easier to find, but if you aren't coming back then its a pain in the ass. This is going to be intersting. I have a small trailer, so renting a covered trailer in not in my immeadiate future, but if i need to rent a tow dolly, then i'm screwed. I am keeping an eye on this thread more because it pisses the hell out of me when a company does something like this.
Scott
And i just put my second explorer on the road!

They even replied to my form letter!

It was the exact same form letter that I modified and sent to them.
:D

From "New Car Test Drive"

"2004 Ford Explorer
America's best-selling SUV.

By Mitch McCullough

Overview

Ford Explorer is the modern American station wagon. Ford sells more than 400,000 Explorers a year, making it the best-selling SUV and the sixth best-selling vehicle in America, and it's held these titles for a dozen years. Though quite capable as a tow vehicle and able to venture off the highway, most Explorers, like most SUVs, spend their entire lives shuttling people and performing the duties station wagons performed when Baby Boomers were growing up. The Explorer answers this call admirably and comfortably, which is part of the reason it's so popular."

I just looked to see if i could register the domain www.uhaulsucks.com and come to find out its already registered ... and it is registered by uhaul themselves. I guess they figured eventually someone would want to put up a site l ike that so they registered it.

uhaulsucks.com is already registered, but uhaul-blows.com appears to still be available if anyone is really interested

That's not an explorer, that's and old GMC Jimmy.

I found this there also
I found this letter on the quadratec site. It was posted buy a U-Haul Employee. I am sure ford would LOVE to hear about this now.

Effective immediately, it is now U-Haul Policy to not rent any U-Haul trailer, TD, AT or TB behind a Ford Explorer.

This policy change is not related to any safety issues,
U-Haul policy is based on the negative public perception of Ford Explorers and the resulting negative consequences for U-Haul. Customers should rely on the manufacturers recommendation regarding towing with any specific Ford Explorer. U-Haul is choosing not to rent behind them. By implementing this policy, we are separating ourselves from the negative public perception and its potential consequences.
I guess that's their "business reasons"

I'm choosing to separate myself from the negative perception I have of Uhaul by refusing to have any business dealings with them ever. By choosing this course of action, I am confident that I will be able to avoid any potential bad consequences related to renting their inferior equipment. :p
