Just got done towing my new project home (91 "X"). When I came home I had some problems getting the truck off the tow dolly. Reverse wouldn't work for some strange reason so I decided to move it up a little, just enough so it would bounce off the front bumpstop and roll-off. It finally did after a few tries. I then proceeded to turn sharply off to the left to go around the dolly and into my driveway when I felt a jolt... got out to check what caused that jolt and saw that I have clipped the dolly's fender ripping the light with it's bracket. I was way too close to the dolly to make such a move... stupid me, never noticed that untill it was too late. I should off moved that thing away before proceeding... but hey! too late to think about it now. Extra cost...

Well that sucks, I wonder how much thats going to cost. I recently rented from uhaul, but a full trailer, halfway there both ramps broke loose and were dragging down the road, didnt know till finally we passed someone else. I didnt hear or feel a thing in my F250, oops, probably drug them for miles, lol.
It was a miracle they held on.

and just imagine... me, an old driver with 26 years of experiance behind the wheel doing something like this. There was definatelly something in the air today.
BTW - I did have to stop twice to re-attach safety chains... somehow these got loose after hitting a dip in the pavement. Heard those drag behind even with windows closed...

Have any other problems? I found when I got going about 80km/h, the thing put my ranger(on the dolly) into a massive S fishtail....almost rolled the F-150 and the ranger that day.......

It was pretty windy but no, no other problems. A while ago I was towing an old VW Bus and almost lost control of my "X" doing "only" 70 mph... went into a wild fishtail but recovered in time. I pulled off to the side and checked for problems... one of the tires on the Bus was low on air... that caused it to sway from side to side behind my "X". Changed wheels and had no problems all the way home.

Ha, since i work at U-haul this makes me laugh :p Way to go! :D

So far they have not called me with the total... I need to call this guy and find out. See, I don't think he's a U-haul dealer anymore... this guy is pretty good, I even asked for a discount before renting this trailer from him and got it for $10.00 less... now it's gonna cost me more to fix it for sure.

i tell you what bro if he doesnt call you then dont call him, i work for penske in irvine and i had some guy mess up one of our trucks and the only reason we charged him is because we called him so dont bother calling because that is their problem if they want their money they will call you.

:thumbdwn: I can't do that... if it was a regular u-haul center then I would care less but this is a small place, the guy is on his own. I owe him one since he got me out of a jam a while back. Plus, where do I go next time I need a trailer?

haha, yea, rented trailers are great. Especially when they won't rent to explorers. I had a rental trailer from a certain large rental company, dragged a old Taurus up on it that had no wheels/tires or suspension under it. When I got it to where it was going, we hooked a chain from the back of the taurus to a tree, then drove off with my Mounty. Had a bunch of scratches in it, and a some bent metal, but none of it was obvious enough for them to care.

yah, i had the honor of working for uhaul not too long agoa nd to be honest with you, most people dont check for damage unless there is a gaping hole in the side( which ive seen). no one accounts for small scratches or dents. we had a lady drive a brand new 26 foot truck(less than 10000 miles on it) into a mcdonalds parking lot and hit the drive thru overhang. didnt notice till she ripped a hole big enough to pull a car thru in the side of it. 6000 dollar whoops. people amaze me.

looking @ the color of the trailer he probably isnt a uhaul place anymore..... doesnt uhaul not rent to explorers? and the color is blue and white, not orange, also uhual has a clause that says they dont sell trailers

I've got to call this guy. He wrote my number on a piece of paper and can't probably find it now. He's like 70 years old... I don't want to ba an a**.

Even u-haul will rent trailers to me - cause I use my Mounty for hauling stuff around. I have never ( :hammer: :hammer: ) had any problems with either trucks or trailers... and I drove trucks for a living for a while.

thats bs, why the hell wont u-haul rent to me. i took my mounty to a garage to get my new rims mounted and they said nope we wont do it.

Didn't want to mount your rims on a Mounty? That's BS. Some people freaked out because of that Firestone crap.

and I thought that only Explorer was marked... :fire:

ya it was the 33's though.

no wonder... for something like this I just simply go to a small local shop where they work instead of complaining.

lol that is so true we dont check at all unless it is amazingly damaged but the insurance is always worth taking in case you are the person who does do something bad

on a side note yah i hat how the stupid shops wont install tires on the explorers i had went to sears automotive and they refused to put stupid 31s and they said they would only go as high as 29's that is rediculous(sp?)
