I was putting a hood light in the X today I took from a Ranger since mine did not have one. As I was cutting a hole in the insulation I started to think what does this do. Some have it and some don't.

I do not know what purpose it serves but was wondering since I live in a warm climate year round if I can remove it. I would think that it only traps heat in the engine compartment. Also since the roads here are not like the US there is a lot of dust and dirt, it looks like it holds a lot of dirt.

Would this be a good or bad idea? Is there any drawbacks to doing this?

Thanks
Scott

It also absorbs engine noise but i dont know what kind of difference it would make in your situation. You should be able to put it back on after you take it off i would think. All i can say is it is there for a reason. ;)

It has nothing to do with heat...

it helps prevent the hood from transmitting engine noise like a drumhead. Without it, every click, squeak, and rattle coming from teh engine will be much more noticable.

Here's another good reason for it...

I never had one on my 95 x. 5-6 yrs later my dark blue paint was fading, and in 2005 parts of the hood were ruff white! whit no paint! I just got mine re-painted and bought a dynamat hoodliner to keep it that way..

KEEP IT ON.

I've heard different stories for that insulation. The one I like the best is that in case of fire - it's suppose to fall and blanket the fire. However, no real evidence shows this. Just burns it all haha. But like I said, it's a story and it's the one I like the best.
