with a box back there, will it be possible to keep my spring flaps and be able to lock the seats back??

With that box you remove the front palstic cover with doors, the spring flap and the plastic reinforcement piece. You can still lock it in the upright position and fold it down.

finally made time for my box now that i got my projector retro done. ive done some research about the mdf. some say its safe to use 1/2in. can i get away with 1/2in with two 8's?

I would use atleast 3/4" unless you fill it with poly fill.
