Hello, I am working on a freinds '00 Explorer 4X4 Limited. The ABS is coming on when the vehicle makes tight left turns at lower speeds and it making it difficult to stop the vehicle. I am not getting an ABS or any other warning lights. Brake fluid is full and brake system works fine other than this problem. I was curious if this is something common for this model? Im not really sure where to go from here? I would think it would be a problem with the ABS module or maybe a speed sensor? If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Thanks a lot

I had a similar issue with my '99 and it turned out to be the wheel bearing assembly. I failing bearing will cause the disc to shift slightly, wearing on the sensor. Good news - ewasy fix. Bad news - if it's like my '99, the bearing comes sealed as an assembly, including wheel studs and ABD sensor - about $150 an 30-45 minutes of work.

Lift the tire and check for wobble to test bearing...

Ok I will give that a shot, is it possible to test unplug the front sensor and test them with a volt meter without remvoving the hub assembly? Also if the bearing assembly just bolt on, no need to press anything it or out? I have yet to crawl under there and take a look. Thanks for the advice

The whole assembly is bolt on. NOt hard at all. I don't know what the readings are with a DVM - my bearing issue was quite obvious :)

Ok thats what i figured, thanks for the help. Im not to sure of the voltage readings on the sensors but i think if you turn the wheel back and forth while checking voltage it should bounce around alot and if you dont see a lot of change while turning the wheel then the sensors prolly bad. Ill have to jack it up and check out the bearings. Thanks again
