Hi,
I haven't seen this exact problem addressed here, so I hope someone can help. Our 1991 Ford Explorer XLT-4dr 4x4 (150,000) miles, started doing this about 6 months ago and a mechanic was unable to locate the problem. It shakes and vibrates as accelerating only. It is worse when towing our (small) boat, or going up a hill. Once we reach our determined speed-the vibration stops. It does not do this when not moving and reving up the motor. Rough terrain does not seem to have anything to do with it. It almost seems as if the vibration is coming from the center of the vehicle--near the drive shaft. We had the transmission replaced over 2 yrs ago--it has 30,000 miles on it. The motor appears to be running and idling smooth. We have had the fuel system checked and cleaned and the engine tuned. New tires-balance and allignment U-joints and wheelbearings were checked, and okay. Does anyone know what this could be caused by?
