The work looks good but I am not sure I am a fan of this trend of everyone trying to make their Explorer look like a Sport.
It reminds of when I had a real 70 Chevelle SS 454 it seemed like there were a million fakes out there.
However as I said your Explorer is nice and it looks good.

Looking good...

I am debating just masking the whole car with plastic tarp and painting my handles for real... Im getting sick of the plastidip peeling 2 days later.

I understand plastidip gets the job done but working at the shop doing custom work, we hate it. U get what u pay for.

Thanks and good luck. Real paint will be best for the chrome

Yea, Im just worried about lease return... Either the dealer wont even notice, or they will and then Ill be stuck and have to figure something out fast. I could try to trade with someones chromies a month before lease end, but they would have to be local, and its a bunch of work.

I think it's cute that they're dressing up like their big brothers.

Although I do commend the OP for ditching the Plastidip trend and doing it the right way.

wasnt available in august when i bought it. or else i would of gotten it man.

Liking it! Good job! Next in line are the wheels right? Planning on changing the rims or will you be painting them?

Did you also smoke the clearpart of the tail lights? how did you do it, did you do the same coats on the red part and the clear? or did you mask off the clear first and then painted the lights with 2 coats and then removing the mask to finish all on the 3rd coat? Would like to know how you did it coz im planning to do mine too but dont want the clear parts to be very dark

Also, for removing the tail lights, - its just simply removing the cap and the 2 8mm hex and then pull out the tails right? want to do this the right way like you and remove the tail lights to paint it.

Real Paint is awesome!

hey buddy,

I would love to do wheels but maybe in the spring. its winter here in nj so i still have time. thinking about 22s. we'll see.

the clear part of the tails are not painted at all. they were masked off.

and removing the taillights is exactly what you said. theres just a small clip at the corner of the light on the quarter thats a bit tricky but it pops off with a little tug.

thanks

Maybe you will be able to find a 3.5 ecoboost to throw in as well.

I will never understand why someone wants to bash on someone for making there explorer look like another one. Me I like the sport but didnt like the price tag. I think it looks great . I dont know about you guys but the price between my base model and the next model up is a lil over 10 grand and for what some wheels and stereo and heated seats . Sorry another 10grand for that doesnt come close to what you can mod for that amount of money.

thank you. i thought this was more of a friendly forum. i offered my services to help anyone out before and these guys just seem to "bash". and like i said before, the sport was not available in august when i got my '13 or else that could have been an option. at least now i get to do everything pretty much for free except i paid $80 for the hood emblem.

Being an M3 owner I understand people trying to make their car look like an M/// car. Does it bother me, no, it's actually a complement! Does it make my car feel a little less rare, sure. But I agree that people should do what they want and not get bashed for it.

But Tkirk, I do have to say that your comment is BS. The main feature you get with the sport is the 360hp twin turbo ecoboost engine. And that you can't add very easily to a base model ex.

A lot of people bash M3 owners saying all you get is a bigger engine and some m badges. I could make my 335 as fast with 5 k in mods.

Well it's not about being as fast, it's about the feel, sound and most of all handling you get which would cost thousands of dollars to get in a 335.

Anyway, I'm at the dentist waiting room and ranting now. Lol I'm done.

:)

agreed with calling bs there is lot of upgrades to the Sport for the costs. Such as chassis upgrades, awd recalibtation along with more cooling, steering reworkedand more....
btw I would not call what was said as bashing....alsonif was going to mod a car I would not make it look like another stock vehicle...but that it just me and me only

Tkirk54 said, between his base model and the next model up. The next model up isn't a Sport.

We have a Sport and I think it would look better with a color matched rear trim and door handles. I agree that what makes a Sport a Sport is the HP not some stupid trim. Also remember that an Explorer is a soccer mom mobile, my wife is the primary driver of ours. Cooler then a mini van, but its no Grand Cherokee SRT8!
