A few weeks ago I posted a message on replacing spark plugs. I was having a problem with the engine "bumping, missing" at 45-55 mph when in OD. I replaced the Bosch platinum plugs with Autolite Copper Cores, and the bumping went away completely.

Well the bump returned after about 300 miles. If I accelerated hard, it would go away, only to return in a few miles. It was as if the plugs were getting a coating on them and accelerating hard would clean it off.

Anyway, I replaced the original ignition wires yesterday (after 140,000 miles on them) with $22 wires from Autozone. I know, I know. Cheap wires. Get what you pay for, etc, etc, etc. Well, guess what? The bumping is gone. Hopefully for good this time. Apparently the ignition system is sensitive to good wires and plugs. If there is too much resistance, it won't fire. Also, I was somewhat surprised at the quality of the Autozone wires. Externally, they look as good as any other factory type wire. Internally, who knows? They also have a lifetime warrantee. If I have trouble with them, I'll post another message.

Hi Dave,
The Autozone wires will work just fine, you just have to change them more often. About every 60K they should be changed. Those of us that have more expensive wires buy them because they last longer than the run if the mill plug wires, but you end up paying about the same in the long run.

I run the Bosch Platinum Plus 4's and Bosch premium wires. no problems..excellent gas milage :-)
