Howdy,

So I started this job a few days ago. Right when I got under the hood my neighbor wanted to take his boat out and go deep sea fishing so I got sidetracked the last two days with that.

I have never really worked on cars, and all I have is a cheap tool set from Home Depot. Luckily I have a someone who lives close by with a ton of tools so that saved me.

I bought some car ramps. My work space is a small driveway filled with rocks, it's miserable to work on. The girlfriend and I couldn't push the explorer up the ramps. So I bought a new syringe. Attached it to the clutch reservoir line and bled the slave cylinder and pumped the clutch. I got enough pressure in the clutch, turned on the truck and drove it up the ramps, as I got to the top of the ramp, the clutch had no pressure. I couldn't get it out of first, I just turned the key off and then with the engine off put it in neutral.

I took off the shifter, dropped the driveshaft off (4WD), unhooked the slave line(Hard as hell) and disconnected all the electrical stuff.

I can't believe I have made it this far. I have an old shop book, with 18 steps to dropping the tranny. I'm on step 8 so I am close.

I finally think I can do this. I am getting ready to order some parts and need some help. Should I wait to order parts until the thing is all the way off?? That way I can check the clutch to see if I really need to change it and the fly wheel and see if it was just the slave?

Or should I order everything right now just to get it here and change everything?

If so are these too links ok to order one or the other for a 1992

Or can I buy this one and then a more expensive ford slave?

Thanks guys, the girlfriend is gonna take some pics and video soon and I will upload. Wish me luck, I feel like the tranny will be out soon. Any major hurdles to still come? Or tips?

Thank you fire phoenix. My bad, and will order that way.

I just got to the transfer case...this son of a b*tch. I have no idea how I am going to get the transfer case off, but I'm starting to watch a lot of youtube videos.

The girlfriend posted a video of the truck on our facebook page if you are looking to see how crappy my driveway is.

I just found out that there is a panel that I can access the transfer case from the cab of the truck. I cut the carpet back away from the shifter inside the cab. I cut through some insulation and thick carpet and removed four bolts that were holding on a panel. I removed the panel and am now looking down at the place where the transmission and tcase come together. I'm going to remove the top two bolts of the tcase this way.

A sheet of plywood will take care of that gravel driveway.

I got the transfer case out last night, that was the hardest thing to remove. Today I am going to try and drop the tranny. I am really worried about the exhaust...

It looks like someone has cut the exhaust and welded it back together 3 times in the lifetime of this truck. I am worried I will not be able to get to the bolts, or remove the Y cross bars. I'm thinking of leaving the exhaust in place and trying to lift the tranny up and over and out without having to remove the whole exhaust.

I've done clutches with the trans under the car but above the exhaust before. Didn't have tall enough jacks to get the trans out on my firebird. Not sure if you've got the clearance to do that, but that transmission jack will be a big help.
