I am working on a 99 Explorer XLT and I would like to update the front head lights. This is going to be a road cruser and I do not want to have it look like a UFO just landed but brighter than stock would be a plus. I looked at ebay and there are lots of choices from $70 up. Not wanting to buy a POS, I need some input for those that have gone there. Price is always a concern but I want to buy something well done.

Just get some GE Nighthawk Platinums. Brighter than stock, no glare, no bad beam patterns, slightly whiter appearing than normal halogens. Either that, or get an aftermarket clear housing and retrofit a projector in. An HID retrofit bulb WILL make it look whiter and all that, but it will also create glare, a horrible beam pattern, and tell everyone on the road who knows the slightest thing about headlights that you are too poor to do a real retrofit, so you are settling on cheap junk.

Get the Projector headlights and put in a HID bulb. Best around......

I do not want cheap junk and I will do a "proper" retrofit but for the right stuff I need names, part numbers and where I can get. If you have done this and have been pleased with the look and the enhanced lighting, please fill me in.

Just look at this page (How to Projector Retrofit) or do a search. Also try hidplanet.

I replaced my headlights/corners with some Diamond clears, put in some Silver Stars.

The Sticky from P51 is great. It looks like the projector lights are the way to go. Before I follow P51's example, are any of the projector assembly's on ebay any good or are they just junk? They are priced up to $400.
