Upgrading Alarm System, Some advice after Blue was broken into

yea, i dont have ANY stickers saying what i have in there, and i do always turn my music down when i come close to my apartment complex.

i know it was my fault the alarm wasnt activated. The reason it went into valet mode was because my starter went out, but i had one instance where the starter interupt was triggered....to reset it, i push the valet switch a couple of times to reset it. when i did that, turns out it wasnt alarm causing the truck not to start, but rather just the starter...and accidently put it in valet mode. thats why that happened.

i thought about bolting down the sub to keep it in place and to prevent theft, but heres my reasoning not: Theif: "hmm, i cant steal it very easily, so i might as well trash his truck in revenge"

i called the day it got stolen on the insurence thing, Renter's Insurence, and i would have a 500 dollar deductable with all of them, plus its 250 dollars up front for one year covereage....they would have to steal over twice that amount for it to be worth getting, otherwise, im out 500 dollars, and my premium could go up...

like i said, i just wanted to get everyone's input on some of the ideas im having to upgrade and futher reduce the chance of theft or damage, thats all :)

As for someone vandalizing your truck, that is covered by your normal full coverage insurance. If you have an alarm blaring and they can't pull your box quickly, chances are they will split.

To heck with renter's insurance. That won't cover you if it's not parked at home. Call your auto insurance company and ask for a writer. That is an add-on addendum for the extra stuff you have., It will cover wheels, stereo equipment, performance mods, whatever. Keep receipts andf take pictures of all your stuff. Make sure they have an updated list of all your goodies and know what they are worth. It shoudln't raise your insurance more than $10-$15/month, and you pay the same dedcutable as always. You can chancge your deductable as well by paying a slightly higher monthly rate. If you have several thou in upgrades, it makes sense.

really dumb but simple question: was any of your stuff visible while parked? wiring, stickers, etc. was ur subs and equip/deck in plain sight?

the best security is just a physical barrier. maybe ur bumping it too loud around town. someone could track you and/or someone had insider information.

I always turn my stuff down when anywhere near my apartment. But yes, the subs are pretty visable, but i went and got me one of those cargo shade things, will start using it.

Just an update.

Got my new alarm stuff installed:

2 Piezo Alarms on the interier
the paging system, which will tell me when the alarm is goin off, and what triggered it (shock sensor, doors opened, or prox sensor(

Got the prox sensor installed. you walk up to the windows, it beeps at you. you break the glass and reach in, the alarm goes off...and i know about it.

really easy stuff to install.

yes, they did break into the back window, and popped the lock and opened the liftgate. the alarm didnt sound because i had accidently set the alarm in valet mode so the alarm was disabled...the truck was still locked, but the alarm would sound...that was my own fault, but i didnt know i had put it in valet mode. i learned that mistake very quickly, but i dont want to take any chances since all an alarm does IS make noise, but hopefully living in an apartment complex, and if my truck is parked next to someones window in their apartment, it might do some good.

As for if they cut the alarm, they didnt becuase they didnt know it had one, but the brain itself is located under the cupholder in the middle console...good location for wiring, and very inconspicuaous (sp?).

Did I hear you correctly? You left the alarm in valet mode? Sounds like the alarm you have is just fine. Maybe if you can't remember, disable the valet mode.

well, yea, you did hear me correctly. Heres how to set it in valet mode to show how easy it was to set it:

1)open door

2)arm system

3)disarm system

4)arm system

5)disarm System

what had happened is i was getting out of my truck, and my keys fell under the seat. i was reaching for them (while i had the door opened, and i accidently pushed the arm button. so i disarmed it, and closed the door, and armed it again. well, i guess the door didnt close or something, because when i went to disarm it, that when it beeped weird at me, and the siren no longer worked (a result of valet mode)

but i digress. if anything, the pager is cool to have :D

and as for the trash your truck thing, thats true....people i know of that steal from cars say that if they cant get the speakerbox out, there putting a tire rod thru the speaker. Same goes for flipdown tvs. If the theif cant get them, they would rather destroy them than let you have it. A freind of mine had a indash motorized screen that was secured in his mustang, since they couldnt get it out, the removed the face plate and stomped it on the sidewalk next to the car....

But anyways, that sucks about your truck dude. Just get a better alarm or remember not 2 use valet mode (or do like me, i had the shop who hooked up my alarm disable valet mode)
