Pioneer TSA6992R 6x8 replacements for the factory speakers

I just got a Sony xm-zr604 amp (300 W over 4 channel)to power the 4 6x8s.

Are there any do's and donts to doing this?
Are there any write ups that might help?

Thanks,

After reading so much negative here about Xplod amps, I'd go with another brand if possible.

Already purchased, so I will play w/ what I have.
So how should I go about this install, w/ the equipment shown in the pic of my first post. I do not want to return or check anything else out, product wise.

What adapters and wiring will I need? Where do I run the speaker wire? Where is a good place for the amp?

Thanks again,

you might have a factory amp like alot of us do... right rear quarter panel is the location and u need to pop out that whole panel by taking out all the push clips..... then u can cut the wires from there and make em longer to reach your new amp wherever your putting it.... o and dnt forget to run rca's from the head unit to the back and when u install the head unit... dnt connect any of the speaker wires from the alpine deck to factory harness u wont need them u can #### up the deck......

Well said,

The only problem is that I do not have the factory amp. My XLT came with the Base system that used a 4X6 Watt Midline radio (AM/FM, AM/FM/Cassette, or AM/FM/CD) with 4 speakers. From 1998 through 2001
the speakers are upgraded over the "Base" level speakers (1990-1997) in 1998, the "Base" speakers were upgraded to Premium level.

Anywho,

Any links to a how to for this type of upgrade?

Thanks for the replies,

You're in the correct forum. Check the Stickies and they will show you how, step by step, to hook up your new equipment. Good luck!

I would just bypass all the headaches, and run all new wires.

The only harness you would need then is an adaptor for the head unit.

well be sure to check... i also had the reg ford 4x6's and ended up finding a amp ....

how much wattage can your speakers handle ???

a 300 watt amp doesnt seem like alot of power for 4 speakers

if your speakers can handle more wattage i would return the amp and get like a 600 watt or better...

but this is just my opinion !! - i hope you get what your looking for with your system !!!!

In every 2nd gen Explorer I've ever seen, that is a subwoofer amp only and cannot be used as you suggest. Some of the earlier JBL systems also had a radio next to the sub amp. Many thought it was another amp. It's not. It's the actual radio and even has the antenna lead plugging into it.
