1996 Exploder XLT 4x4
So I was wondering through my local junk yard and found my twin Exploder with the EB package. So I removed the auto tint mirror, AC/Heat controller, Computer center that my truck did not come with. I know other vehicles usually have most of these plugs and such tucked away for vehicles that don't use them. Before I start ripping apart my X has anyone done this? I have the XLT full load version minus the EB options. thanks for your help!

Unfortunately, those items are nowhere near plug-and-play. I don't know about the Autolamps mirror (to be honest, I've never seen a 2nd Gen without it), but the Message Center and EATC (Digital Heating/Cooling) system use completely different wiring from the standard equipment.

There's one really good thread on the Message Center addition, but be prepared to do a good amount of wiring and soldering. There's also a good thread on the EATC system, though it's for a Ranger, not an Explorer. I'm actually working on the EATC mod myself, but the project is on hold for the moment. For the Message Center and the EATC mods you'll need several additional components, including the oil level sensor, 3 temperature sensors (actually 2 temperature sensors and a photocell), a different blend door actuator, different blower motor controller, and probably a few other components.

I'm not trying to discourage you at all (I'm planning on doing the Message Center addition as well eventually since I have all the parts), but be aware that these projects are quite involved.

also be aware the message centers from 98+ will not work right in 95-97

Ok well on that note I am not prepared to do all that work just for that stuff. Now who wants to buy this stuff.. hahaha I got no use for it anymore.. I just thought it would be an easy swap. How about the leather seats from an EB will they plug into the same as my power seats in my XLT? BTW the donor truck is a 95 and mine is a 96.
