Will 20" wheels from a 2022 Explorer fit a 2017 Explorer with OEM 18" wheels? I understand the hub diameter is larger on the 2022 but is the bolt pattern the same? I know I'll have to match a similar overall tire diameter on to have a correct speedo, etc...

The generally accepted rule is that when switch sizes that the overall maximum diameter variance should not exceed 3% compared to OEM.
Switching from a 245/60R18 to a 255/55R20 would have a variance of 5% and is therefore not recommended.
It would have adverse affects on the braking and suspension due to the extra weight as well as affecting the electrically programmed Traction Control and ABS.
As to whether or not the larger size would fit, I'm guessing perhaps yes. I've gone the other way with my previous 2017 Platinum which had the 20" wheels and I used a comparable size in 18" tires on the 18" steel wheels for winter driving.
You could get by with a 255/50R20 at a difference of 1.6%

Thank you for the information. I would try to find a tire size as close to the OEM as possible to remain in the 3% differential. Hopefully, the weight between the 2 sets would be similar. So the bolt pattern is the same from 2017 to 2022 and the larger hub bore on the 2022 wheels won't make a difference?

Because the 6th gen wheels have a larger center hub, you will likely have to use hub centric rings to make up for the space.
Tire Rack has quite a bit of info on wheel changes.

I checked on tire rack and did not see anything specific about the swap. I didn’t think about them being hub centric. I’ll probably look for some Gen 5 or aftermarket. Thank you.
