URGENT: backspacing issue

i have a 1997 mercury mountaineer with 2 inch TT and 3 inch shackles...i have 31x10.5x15 tires waiting to be put on but the wheels i am looking at have a 4.0 backspacing and i was told for the mountaineer/explorer that you should use 3.75 backspacing..but would the 4.0 be ok to use..and what are the pros and cons for using the 4.0?

The 4" will be okay. I have 4 5/8" or something like that. All that means is the stance isn't as wide and can be more prone to rubbing. But with 31s you shouldn't have a problem.

Stock is 4.5" I believe.
