So today I got a cheap no name amp from a friend. and I figured that I could just hook it up in place of the old subwoofer amp, to have some bass, which was severely lacking. The amp worked just fine, so I know the amp is not the problem.
I took out the old amp, and then took it apart to get the plugs from off the board, that way I do not have to splice any wires. by doing this I pretty much ruined the old amp, so I threw it out. After some soldering and some swearing, I finally got everything hooked up.
Here is what I did in detail. For the line in, I simply hooked up the red and white to there respective connections and split the ground in to two because the new amp had RCA inputs. so I made a RCA plugs for that, buy soldering the RCA cord which I cut to the plug I got off of the board of the old amp. no wires where touching, and I made sure of that with heat shrink, and electrical tape.
As for the power. I found out which wire was hot, and which one was the negative, and simply hooked them up though the plug, and into wires, because that is the way the new amplifier hooked up. as for the switched 12V source I used an old toggle switch I had laying around, just to test and see what would happen.
the speaker connection from the old system was not needed for the test because I used an older cheap sub just for the test.
I then hooked up the battery, turned on the truck, and nothing.... the head unit lighted up, but there was no screen. and the light for the amp was not showing that it was getting power. so I double and triple checked all of my connections, but still nothing. so I then checked all of the 3 fuses, and they are all good. tried it again, but still nothing....
So here I am with no stereo at all, the only thing I can do it eject the 6 disc cartridge. but other then that I can't even eject my tape. So what did I do wrong, and how can I fix this????
