Urgent Issues

It could also be a bad EGR valve but I believe you said you already replace it and it could also be a bad EGR vacuum regulator solenoid, you also may want to check the hoses that run to the DPFE sensor.

Well one question though , to find out if my old egr valve was bad , what if i just put the old one back on and then went back to autozone or whatever , is there a seperate code just for a bad egr valve only

I found out the sensor is $45 , same price as the egr valve , i noticed though when putting in the new egr valve that the vehicle was alot smoother , unless its both the sensor and the egr valve

How likely could the regulator also be bad , i dont wanna keep putting more and more into this vehicle , just recently got it , but couldn't autozone or whatever test if the solenoid is also bad

Were exactly is the DPFE sensor located on my vehicle , and when you mean check the hoses do you mean like for cracks ect

The DPFE is located on the the driver side valve cover and is held on by two 7mm bolts (I could be wrong on the size). The DPFE sesnors go bad alot more often than an EGR valve. I would buy the DPFE sensor and if that clears the code try your old EGR valve and if you still have no code then return the new EGR valve. By the way I don't think I ever saw an EGR vacuum regulator solenoid go bad well I have but not in a very long time.

Also I just want to add that if you are going to replace the DPFE sensor hoses, make sure you get two hoses that are meant for a DPFE sensor.

So most likely its the sensor , hopefully thats all that it is , would be great if i dont need my egr valve because then i can return the new one

But like i said i did notice when i put in the new egr valve that the vehicle wasent as rough , unfortunately at the moment im kinda stuck with money , so i can get the sensor but ide have to return the egr valve , ill see what happens tomorrow , i got some other work i gotta do to it

But i got a question , this might sound dumb but is there really any way to know if the origional egr valve is bad other then checking the computer for the codes on it

Well if im replacing the sensor , should i probably just go ahead and replace the hoses with it as well , assuming hoses wouldnt be that expensive

If the vehicle smoothed out with the new EGR valve then most likely your old one was stuck open.

Yes its smoother now , but then is there really anything i can do to fix the old one , cleaning it very well or what

Or once its stuck open , its just best to get a new one , im trying to fix versus replace , normally not this stingy but currently i need to be , so if theres a chance to fix it so it wont stick open then i would definitely like to know

When you said it sounded like something fell, it sounds like you may have heard a small explosion in the exhaust caused by air getting in the exhaust tube.

No , the sound i heard with something that dropped , was figured out it was actually something stupid , i left a wrench inside the engine and it was rattling around

So when i went up on a hill , i heard it drop and hit near the firewall , and thats all it was

None the less, you can drive your truck with an EGR issue temporarely without hurting it untill you figure it out. I would get the codes in case there is a secondary problem.

Maybe make sure you have good plugs before it gets too cold to mess with.

Wouldnt the gas be alot worse with a bad egr valve though , whats more important to fix the egr valve or the sensor

The sensor usually goes bad. $50, a screw driver and 5 minutes.

Sorry about the winter advice. I just realized you live near tampa.

About a year ago I posted a picture of a bad sensor that I cut open. It was so corroded inside it looked like it was in the ocean.

Np , yes unfortunately i never get winter weather here , i wish i did cant stand the heat all the time

Well yes i called up autozone and the sensor is $45 with a 2 year warranty on it , but like what exploda said , shouldn't i probably replace the hoses as well , depending on how good the original ones are and of course how expensive

In gambeling terms I would put 100-1 odds on the DPFE.

Wow that great of odds , then i guess i probably should return my egr valve and get the sensor , but do i need to get new hoses or no

And if im gonna put my old egr back on , is there anything i can do about cleaning it or something so it wont get stuck , even temporary till i can afford to get one

I have to reboot hold on!
