Has anyone had any luck getting a USB mobile broadband device to connect? I have a Verizon version and Sync just says "No device detected" when I plug it in.

I keep hearing this and I'm getting worried. We got my girls tablet computers specifically for the car since we are losing our rear entertainment system currently in our Odyssey. We were really looking forward to the Wifi in the vehicle. We are planning on using a Sprint broadband modem to connect, if I ever get my vehicle, I hope we don't have problems.

When I get mine, I will mess with this and write results on the verizon and sprint aircards. I will also test it's ability to use some android phones and a blackberry to pull the internet from.

Thanks, that would be great information!

I can confirm the iphone with tethering plan works via bluetooth (PAN). Though this might be mute since it's expected AT&T users will soon have access to the wifi tethering option that verizon users got when the phone came out there.

One costs extra, one doesn't ;)

correct, at&t tether through at&t app cost extra per month. Jailbroken tether apps cost once..

Through the car, if can get it to work may be the way to go if thats the only place you need the hotspot.

I have been trying unsuccessfully to get this to work on my Explorer with a Droid X. If I have to pay verizon the $10 for tethering, why not just connect my other devices to my phone instead of through MFT. I was expecting this to somehow work like tethering without paying Verizon. Anyone had luck with that?

Verizon USB modems run on a program that needs to be installed without it it won't work
you would need to put the program on a usb device that the vehicle can see then install it

Not always true. We have run both a Verizon and a Sprint USB stick via Millenicom (verizon and sprint reseller) on our MBR100 which is a 3g router. No software installed.

When we used it on a pc we did install software to control it, but I don't remember if we "had to" since we always used it in the router.

Testing exactly that...... this week will let you know ASAP.

tested with a 9700 blackberry bold. No luck. Only advanced BT functions but no tethering.

Tried the Sierra Wireless 308 GSM HSPA+ USB modem and it works great in my MacBook but wont work in SYNC MFT. Doesn't even light up. When you plug it in it auto downloads its modem user interface software so perhaps it has to do that in SYNC but SYNC wont allow that right now.

Called SYNC Tech Support they told me only two USB modems work with the current v2.4 SYNC MFT software.

Sierra Wireless 598 CDMA EvDO

Sierra Wireless Mercury USB GSM modem from AT&T

Apparently the Sierra Wireless 308 USB modem is being tested and may be approved in the next version upgrade of SYNC.

Anyone try one of these and have success?

I have a rooted HTC Droid incredible which works through Bluetooth, but for that matter, it can just be set to broadcast as a WiFi hotspot all by itself....

Does SYNC see it and allow a connection through the SYNC configuration screen?

Can people with the 2011 XLT with 202A no nav, use the wifi hotspot?

Its part of the SYNC My Ford Touch so my guess is no. I have only used the Limited Edition MFT

See my earlier post about only two USB stick modems approved for use with MFT right now. Thats with SYNC Gen2 v2.4.

Im very interested to hear from someone with v2.7 to see if more USB data modems work now as they were testing a number of them.

My vehicle finds and connects no problem with my home WiFi network or any open WiFi but right now I don't see that there is any added MFT functionality with being connected to the internet. My understanding is this is for future functionality.

Can anyone with SYNC Gen2 v2.7 advise if they have used any new USB data modems with success?
