I'm getting a lot of heat off of my cats and the exhaust pipes. The pipes run very close to the oil pan and tranny.

Can I use wrap on the exhaust and cats to help reduce the radiated heat? Everything gets very hot after some 4x4 runs in deep sand and long up hill tows.

Any other ideas to help reduce under vehicle temps?

i have heard that it can spawn a rust problem.

it wouldn't be a good idea to wrap that far back. The cooling of the exhaust gasses produces a venturi. Which encourages the flow of your exhaust to your tail pipe. If you were to wrap that area the proper cooling wouldn't take place. This could increase back pressure and possibly damage some of your exhaust components due to excessive heat retention. If the heat shielding has beeen removed you might want to think of replacing it, insulating with some high temp insulation under the vehicle or under the carpet.
Hope this helps,
Jeff

buy some aluminum and built yourself some heat sheilds..... but whatever you do...... DONT USE HEADER WRAP ON ANYTHING. that stuff is for racers who dont mind throwing away headers every year or two. i promise you, your cats/exhaust will be rotted out very quickly. i wrapped a brand new set of headers on my first truck (10th grade). by my senior year, they were toast. :(

build heat guards, simple sheet of metal between the cat and the tranny solenoids will suffice.

Your other option is jet coat, but I dont think its wise to jet coat the cat/exhaust pipe.....

Thanks, Looks like I'm going to have to make up some shields to protect the tranny and oil pan from the exhaust heat.

Building shields and getting the FMS headers ceramic coated should help.... I hope.
