I've recently purchased a used '99 XLT, and the dealer had very little info as to what features the car is actually equipped with. Is there any way that I can find out the exact specs on my truck, probably through using my VIN. I tried the ford owner connection but there wasn't any useful there. Thanks in advance for any tips.

Thanks for the feedback, but that is just the basic specs. I am trying to figure out precisely what my vehicle is equiped with (whats the sound system, is it AWD, does it have the side airbags) and what not. Perhaps taking it to a dealer is my only option.

if it's a V-8, it is AWD.
that's all i can tell you about it.
the dealer might be able to tell you what all the VIN numbers mean.

Pretty simple about the AWD thing, as Leenjen said, if it's a V8, it's either AWD or 2WD. If it's a V6 it's either 4WD or 2WD.
About the sound thing, you have the premium sound system if you have a sub in the back gate (i think).

some premium systems dont have the subwoofer. mine had the premium system without the sub.

Yeah, the Ford Premium Sound System does not have a subwoofer in the back. Only the top-of-the-line JBL ('91?-'97) and Mach ('98-'01) systems have a sub in the back. If it has side airbags, there should be a little engraved markings on the side of the front seats. If you want to know if you have AWD, try to find a day that has been raining, the make a right turn at an intersection with WOT. If you have AWD, you should not spin out easily. I think you can go to the dealer and ask for its specs sheet. I know Chrysler and Jeep does that because we tried it once. I hope this helps out at least a little bit.

Why not just look underneath to see if you have a transfer case and front driveshaft? Sounds a lot safer to me.

Oops...I haven't thought about that. Sorry about that. I'm just too tired today. I went to bed late last night and woke up at 6 this morning. Hope ya know what I'm going through right now. LOL.
