Pennzoil YB 5W30 1,473 miles on oil 2002 Ford Explorer V6 4.0L with 61,908 miles on engine. Previous oil had gone long (unknown by me, was wife's truck) and I wanted a short interval to clean up engine before switching to something better. Filter was ordinary Purolator.
The 1/4 quart makeup oil was some Mobil 1 5W30 that was left over after changing the oil on my other car. I figured better in an engine that in a bottle.
Even for a short interval I'm happy that the Explorer is doing so well and nothing is terribly out of whack. The TBN at 2.7 is good (better be at ~1500 miles). The YB Pennzoil sure had alot of moly. It might have sheared down a bit, nothing at this point but it might have been an issue in a longer more normal OCI.
I now have Amsoil 0W30 with a Wix filter in the Explorer and I'm hoping for a 1 year OCI (no way I put more than 6,000 miles a year on the truck nowdays). I'll sample at 6 months to see how it's doing.
