V-8 base timing adjustment

I was looking at the sensor where the distributor would normally be and was wondering if the factory base timing could be adjusted from that sensor. Can the sensor be turned to advance or retard the base timing? I have the Apten chip and have a slight pinging even when running premium gas. I was going to send the chip back to take some timing advance out but if I can retard the base timing a couple of degrees I might not need to send it back. Has anybody adjusted their sensor before? nope, non-adjustable. either send your chip back for reprogram, or send your chip back for reprogram.

James is rgiht. The cam position sensor is only there to tell the EEC which cycle the #1 cylinder is on. The actual timing is controlled by the 36 minus 1 crank shaft trigger. There are adjustable crank triggers out now for 4.6L engines, but not ours.

Your best bet would be to get a new chip - dyno tune would be best.
