I have a 99 Bauer with some mild mods. My most recent thought was using the axle and IFS off of a 99 sport that I have lying around. Currently the Bauer has the typical axle configuration D4(3.73 limited slip) and the sport is code 42 (4.10 conventional.) I am aware of the results of the ratio swap, but was looking to hear the opinions of others regarding the limited vs conventional differences. I am look for preformance so I dont want to end up making the swap and switching back due to adverse effects. Thanks in advance.

When were talking, I didn't realize you were AWD...

2 open axles in an AWD vehicle....does that only make it a 2wd? LOL

You COULD put that 42 axle in there, and replace the D4, along with the matching front axles....

Just be cautious on slick roads....I have no experience with an open axle in an AWD configuration....I doubt much anyone has...

I had an open 4.10 on mine for a couple years, until I got the money to buy the tools and parts to re-gear the original axles to 4.56

LS vs open dif made no noticable difference in day-to-day driving

The open axles are fine in awd, the explorer my parents bought from Joe dirt is open and I can't feel any difference driving it normally on dry pavement or rain. That being said I wouldn't waste my time with the swap, I have 4.10's now that I swapped to from 3.73 and there was very little difference in performance, so little that there was no real difference in my 1/4 mile times at the track. The only time I would encourage the swap is if you were going to run 33" tires.

^Like Eric said^

That V8 AWD had opens which I never even knew- it did fine in the snow, I didn't even notice a difference from my 97 but then again I wasn't looking for it because I had no idea it was an open...
