so i was driving to work like i always do, had the cruise set at 120klm then the engine stalled and i coasted to a stop. I had power to everything and but the starter would not engage at all. no clicking like a dead battery, starter wouldnt even make a peep. I recently had the tranny done a couple of months ago so my first suspect is a grounding situation of some sort. I put a code reader on the truck and it wouldn't connect with the computer. any suggestions, or anyone know where i can get a good ecu pin out and wiring diagram that will show me all the grounding locations and trouble shooting ideas.

could be the alternator......

well if it cant connect with the computer my first bet is a dead battery, get it checked, if that doesnt wore have the PCU tested at a dealership. when you put the key in do you hear the fuel pump whine for a few seconds? get back to us soon.

No I got great battery power, but no pump or power to starter. I would like to go over all the grounds. It's like the computer just shut off. Anyone know how to self test the ecu?.

Next step, check to make sure the everything is grounded out propperly, and that all of your fuses are still working.

Thanks zerodevil, I haven't had much time to look at it yet I've been working a lot but next week when I'm off shift I definately will start going over the electrical. Does anyone know where I can get a good schematic for the starting, charging, and ecu wiring diagrams. I hate using haynes manuals sometimes there very inaccurate.

i dont have any experience with haynes, but my chiltons manual has been dead on the few times i have had to use it, better knock on wood now... Anywho, keep us in the loop.

P.s. do the interior lights come on? Do you get a security light on the dash? this could either be an electrical issue, or a PATS issue, hope for the earlier.

Everything electrically works lights, all dash lights etc. But when I turn the key nothing happens and the fuel pump doesn't kick in. My code reader won't connect with the ecu either. I'll b able to work on it tomorrow night after work and I'll post if I find anything. Gonna check electrical circuits and grounds

Did you check the interia fuel pump switch (rt front kick panel area)?

No never thought of it cause the vehicle never received any impact. Also I think if the inertia switch was tripped my code reader would still communicate with the ecu which it's not communicating

not to mention the engine would crank.

power to PCM & starter

I don't have a 2002 wiring diagram but according to my 2000 wiring diagram the power to the starter has very little in common with the power to the PCM. They use different fuses and relays. Lack of power to the PCM will not prevent the starter from cranking. About the only thing in common is the ignition switch. Unless you had two simultaneous fuse or relay failures (unlikely) I suspect there is an ignition switch problem.

I had this happen to me recently in my Pontiac Montana work van. It was broken wire in the ignition. Might try to see if it will start if power is applied directly to the starter.

Hope you get it figured out.

I had the exact same thing happen today

Was driving my 02 explorer. Come to a stop behind a line of cars at a stop light and it all of a sudden stalls. Put the car in park and try to restart and it made no sound whatsoever, not even a clicking sound. Put it in nuetral and pushed in brake and tried again. Same result. The batter is only a few months old and all interior and exterior electrical (radio, lights, etc) are working fine and at full power.

Would love to find out if OP found out what was the problem. I suspect mine is the same. Caveat: I'm not very mechanical orientated but would at least like to know the possible options so I can budget for this fix before I run off to the auto shop blindly to get it fixed.

Is the Anti-Theft light blinking on the dash? Have you tried using a different key?
