so basically I read on here how to do a vacuum modulator I took my seat out etc. etc. replaced the dead modulator, now it shifts into drive and reverse great but it doesnt **** whatsoever....so I came back to the forum and read some more and i keep hearing about this darn PIN, pin this, pin that, DONT LOSE THE PIN!!!!!!!!!! well when i took it out i seen this pin and thought nothing of it. now it looks like somebody (me) is taking it back apart and putting the teeny tiny little pin back in. my question is if I can find this darn pin, where do i purchase one?
feel free to lay into me with the insults, it was a mistake of epic proportions that is gonna haunt me until i go and work on it again tomorrow.

Everyone makes mistakes, and that pin is pretty easy to miss. I took classes on transmissions, and was surprised the first time I saw that pin in a vacuum modulator on a ford transmission.... I was lucky at the time to just assume I should throw that pin into the new modulator. As for where you get a new pin.... well hopefully someone can chime in and give you an answer. Otherwise, I'd recommend a trip to the pick and pull. Now that you have taken one off, you should be able to get another off in no time.

that website is brilliant! they need something like that for everything on a car. and hopefully i can find the pin today otherwise somebody will be gettin rides to work

that website was rather helpful, but i need someone that has a picture of the pin i need. i honestly dont know what it should look like.

the one that fell out when i seen fall out was about a inch or two long and it was like a tiny tiny piece of bar stock. like > ============== this kinda hhaha.

Why not just get one from the junk yard? it takes 2 minutes to take off the modulator. just need a 10mm wrench.

thats if the tranny is outside the vehicle correct. otherwise it will be sawzall through the floor time.

No you can reach it from underneath. Once you have taken one off, you will have a good idea of where everything is at and should be able to reach it easily. You can pull them off 2wd or 4wd versions.

The pin is really just a tiny little pin..... Not much to it. If you dropped it somewhere... chances are you will never find it. It may still be stuck in the old modulator, if so, you have it.

From BrooklynBay's link, this is the pin you need, https://www.wittrans.com/SchematicParts.aspx?Transmission=A4LD/4R44E/4R55E/5R55E&LinkCode=164

so I found the pin and put it back in now its back to shifting the way it was before i changed the modulator, i drive and it doesnt shift until i let off the gas and then it clicks into gear for about the first three gears it does this. anybody got an idea of what this could be?

i think the guys at autozone didnt know what they were talking about because with the pin out it wouldnt shift at all. and they told me that there isnt a pin in there blah blah blah well through trial and error i just put it in and now it shifts just not automatically.

Check the bands to see if one of them is broken. Did you clean out the bore with a wire brush prior to installing the pin/modulator? Did you use Seafoam to clean out the vacuum hose? Did you install an adjustable or non adjustable modulator?

Don't Worry these things happen. For the Life of me I could not find the pin and I was expecting it to come out. Didn't hear anything or find the pin. I went to the local Transmission parts store and found out that the "pin" is:34.50 mm long and depending on the year 85-87 the diameter is 2.45mm and 88 and up is 3.14 diameter. You can just use a finishing nail just clip the end and use a file to grind the burrs off the end so id does not puncture the diaphram.
