Hi i just joined these forums because I was inquiring about a 2004 Ford Explorer and its worth in general. It is in great condition or being an 04 and it is the XLT. It has all leather and has a new sound system in it with a double din unit. Dual power seats and rear ac. The 3rd row of seats as well. Also has crack in the back panel where it seems like everyone gets the crack next to the ford logo. low mileage about 68000. new tires. it has the 4.6L v8 and its automatic. I plan on using this car for offroading. nothing to heavy. but like snow and some mud. Im just wondering even though it doesnt have 4x4 if it will still get the job done with the v8? The price right now is $5600-$5900. Is the price good as well? Any advice is great. Thanks!

Not sure what you mean by off-roading, hard core off-roading means you need at least a 4x4. The IRS suspension doesn't seem to be ideal for off-roading too.

To be honest, this is one kind of a truck that was designed for the pavement (hence the IRS)

What about changing the suspension possibly? I'm not going to try to cross rivers in this things. I do alot of trips to Mammoth Mountain because i snowboard so I want to know if this can handle snow well. I go to the beach alot as well so even just cruising on the beach?

Getting up the mountains to snowboard and driving it on the beach aren't offroading, it'll do great at both of those things. It was built for things like that. On this forum we have a lot of serious offroaders (10 inch lifts, solid axle swaps, rigs built for moab and truckhaven etc) and I'm assuming that's why esclamda mentioned IRS. for handling on snow IRS is great, for getting lots of flex and big lifts, not so much.

For what you want to use it for an explorer sounds perfect. I love mine.
