Howdy all,
I installed a 3" PA lift, and on the maiden voyage oil started leaking pretty steady out of what looks like to be the very back part of the passenger side valve cover.
I tried the best I could to see where exactly it's coming from with a mirror on a stick and feeling around for the wet and dry spots (reminds me of a ex-girlfriend, harhar) and all signs point to valve cover gasket.
Damn.
I guess I'm wondering if there is something else behind there that could be leaking. or if not, maybe a reason why this happened? I can't believe a gasket would go from installing the lift, that seems very unlikley.
I'm going to start looking into new gaskets, does anyone know where I can see the procedure to remove it? I used a kick ass pdf file to drop the tranny pan, is there something similar for the valve cover?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Look at the valve cover itself, we just had 2 come on with the valve cover broken from the timing chain guide coming apart on the pass side.

Well I went and looked as close as I could, I didn't see or feel any cracks or holes, but I guess I'll know for sure tomorrow when I take the cover off.

If it is the cam chain guide, does that mean I should start looking for a new engine?

80,000 miles no warranty.

Dag nabbit.

Your ex-girlfriend had oily spots? :p: :D

I think Fords are designed to leak at least a small amount of oil. Its like a built in anti-corrosion system. :p:

She wasen't a keeper, but on hot summer days she kept all the flies away from me.

And I ain't talkin a weeping gasket leak, I am talking a steady stream of oil being dumped out. I bet I could get a quart if I let it idle for 20 minutes.

*Edit-Heres a pic, I do believe that is a crack in the head right above the adjuster bolt (I think thats what that black nut is):

Looks like I am a pedestrian now, I wonder how good the Walking Enthusiasts forums are? Maybe I can get some shoes with a lift kit. And a winch. This blows.

Hi Threkin .... i think mine is leaking in the same place. Did you get yours repaired?

No, not yet. I'm still thinking about what to do.

I'm trying to see if there is an upgrade to the timing parts that 'sploded, I refuse to pull the engine just to put shat parts back in it. That search has been inconclusive so far.

Putting a 5.0 in it seems to be a bit out of my scope, I dont want to have a torn down explorer in my garage for a half a year...

I stuffed a rag next to the head and parked it in front of my house for now.

If you have yours looked at, would you mind posting the results here?

Anyone figure this out just curious if that bolt is leaking
