Valve stem seals? 98 5.0

So my truck was barely missing and I thought the fuel pump was going out but I checked the spark plugs and found this oil and corrosion on the threads is this the valve stem seal? I had replaced the plugs just a two years ago and they looked similar. Oil consumption has also been high.

if I just bought brand new heads with new valve stems would that solve the problem?

What are your compressions? Could be rings, too.

What you are seeing is CARBON build-up from excess oil consumption. How many miles to accumulate so much after you clean the? ALL the plugs? Valve stem seals only leak, mainly on intake valves. The exhaust valves are not exposed to the vacuum, sucking oil down the valves stems and burning it. More likely caused by worn out piston rings. Run a compression test. Stem seals CAN be replaced without head removal on older OHV engines, but I'm not sure about OHC. It's a tricky job, but can save lots of time. (or create headaches galore).

It was worst from front to back both sides. Back plugs looked almost normal still cruddy tho. Yikes at the rings I guess I can beat on it till she dies

You can try putting in a heavier weight motor oil, if you can find single weight anymore. I'd try 40-weight. Hell, we used to put 90-weight gear oil in them in a pinch! If you go heavier, and find lower oil consumption, count on bad rings.
