I always use synthetic since they invented it.
What tool - not ebay - do you use to find junk yard engines?
Nothing on fleebay anywhere near SE Michigan, and what I do see is closer to 3000$ and the rebuild of one is quoted at $3500
I'm in South Louisiana. It's easy to find used engines here. I mean, I only paid $100 for my Explorer with only 112,000 miles on it. Facebook Marketplace is probably the best place to look for used engines. A lot of times they even give a 30 day warranty. It's not much of a warranty, but what do you expect for being so cheap?

If you can't find one, let me know. I'll see if the places nearby would ship one.

I'm seeing lots of 4.0L engines near Detroit, many under 100k miles. Looks like $1,000 to $1,500 depending on the mileage you desire.

What does the 8th digit VIN indicate or mean ?

4.0L (SOHC), VIN E (8th digit), Sport Trac, 4x2
4.0L (SOHC), VIN E (8th digit), Sport Trac, 4x4
4.0L (SOHC), VIN E (8th digit), exc. Sport Trac
4.0L (SOHC), VIN K (8th digit), Sport Trac, 4x2
4.0L (SOHC), VIN K (8th digit), Sport Trac, 4x4
4.0L (SOHC), VIN K (8th digit), exc. Sport Trac

The 8th digit Vin code E is for non-flex fuel and the K code is flex fuel. It has nothing to do with the model of the sport trac

Can’t do that Jon, the motor is blown…. I am trying to isolate if a oil filter failure is the cause of the motor blowing up
The only thing I can think of is that the engine was starved for oil when they first cranked it over after the oil change. This might have put additional stress on the engine for a brief time and possibly contributed to the issue. IMO it's your timing chain that is trashed and it could be coincidence or it could be the oil thing.

As for oil walmart amazon and costco all use the same supplier for their synthetic. It's good stuff and is what I am using in my 05 4.0. In general modern synthetic oil is so much better than the dinosaur stuff we used in the 70's there is almost no comparison. You can go 10k with it no problem but if it's a new-to-you engine I'd go 3-5 for the first few changes so it can clean the old sludge out then bump up to 10. Then again oil is relatively cheap and engines are expensive.

Walmart filters are actually pretty decent too but motorcraft are better. If you can't get motorcraft I'd go with walmart supertech brand. I'd get the oil from costco since they have the best deal on it.

Only run filters that have the anti drain back feature. WIX, Amsoil, and Motorcraft is what I suggest. If you're doing an engine clean, then I wouldn't waste my money on an expensive filter.

I'm not running an anti drain back right now because I recently put in a used engine and have some additive in the oil to clean up some gunk. My Amsoil Advanced OE oil and WIX filter will be here in 2 days. That's what I suggest using.

Pretty sure the super techs have an anti drainback. Check youtube for cutaway videos.

Ciao Group - looking for a little direction. Took my car to have oil changed and new tires. Drove out of service center’s lot to my house ( approx 2 miles) picked up my trailer, drove another two miles to my warehouse and the upper half of my engine blew up. :-(. 115K miles on it and engine was perfect before oil change. Roughly been about 4-5K miles since last change with a synthetic blend. Don’t really use the vehicle much, its just my utility vehicle for Home Depot runs, etc….

I haven’t pull anything apart yet, posted video so you can hear the noise. It is much much louder in person….
Anone have thoughts ?

I think it's just coincidence if the oil is full. The clue is you pulled a trailer and torqued the motor more than normal for the final straw. I can't count the times coincidence played a role. The 4.0 SOHC is known for that problem. Time for the dreaded repair. If you pull the motor I would go ahead and put a head gasket set in and have the heads worked. It's not quite time but pretty close. Kill two birds with one stone.
