Just have some unanswered questions that maybe some of you guys have already been through since we all have the same truck just about. First off my ST is a 2001 and it now has about 116k on it. A couple weeks ago i drained the coolant from the lower radiator hose on the right when looking at it facing the truck. Towards the end of the coolant some oil came out as well. Any thoughts on that??? Thats just one ? so far, i'll keep adding more after i get some answers.

One of both of your head gaskets maybe leaking. You may want to look at your oil and see if it has coolant in it. Also if the truck has overheated bad it may have a warp in the head or a crack. I really dont know of another location where oil can mix with coolant but others might chime in.

uh oh... that doesn't sound good at all.. my money is on head gasket, but it could be a crack in the head.. As Clusterpup says, check the oil too. if it's "foamy" there may be coolant present.

The truck never overheats. And whats the best way to inspect the cylinder head, just look around for leaks so to speak?

Have your cooling system pressure tested if you do have a lown head gasket that should tell you.

How much oil? Did it have any color or odor?
Maybe a transmission fluid leak in the radiator?

It wasn't much at all, i'd say less than a quart. Yea it was a dark brown and it smelled like oil to me. I'll have to get my cooling system pressure tested and see if its the head gaskets.

I lost my push in clip on the left side and i cant stand that metal bar with the tab and welded on nut. Does anyone use any alternative methods?

I used a nut and bolt with a 2"x 1/4" piece of metal with a drilled hole for a long hold down washer.

i bumped into my buddys ranger on accident, and my bumper on the passenger side got a little warped.. we just propped it back into place, and drilled a self tapping bolt into it. it holds stronger than the driver side now..

Mileage wise when should you have your first transmission oil change done?

Yea i really need to get that done asap. So next question, i realize you have to be in neutral to change to 4wd low but can you change to 4wd high while driving or does it have to be in park? Like lets say under 30-40mph while driving in 2wd can i switch this lever into 4wd high without stopping? Never tried it before always done it from park or neutral.

I can't remember the specific speed requirement but yes you can do it in drive and moving. The fastest Ive been going in recent memory is about 20. I try to be coasting when I do it so I don't jar the gears up front. I think that last part is just for peace of mind.

Yes, you can switch to 4HI while driving. I've never been driving over 35 mph when I needed 4x4, but that's near the max I would go. I would normally slow down when I know there's a possibility of using 4x4 so switching into 4HI is usually at a pretty low speed for me.

So im assuming i can start off in 4HI then switch to 2wd when needed as well? Reason i ask is im heading to the outer banks soon and will be doing alot of beach driving and will most likely be on the sand more than the pavement. Just wanna be prepared. Never done any on beach driving.

Testin out the dune grapplers?! Should make for some pretty sweet pictures :D

Yes, driving 4hi, you can switch back to 2wd in the same fashion.

I read the manual the other day, and it didn't specify any speed limitation, but I wouldn't plan on doing any 90MPH shifting on the fly lol

Yup putting them on sunday or monday most likely. I'll be taking lots of pics in obx and definitely down sizing from my 33s to 31s. Only for the summer though then the mud grapplers are going right back on. Yea beach speed limit is like 25mph on the sand so i'm all good with that then.

Beach driving is awesome! I love obx just for that reason. Actually I love it down there. Beach is pretty much like driving in snow. Also air down to like 20 psi and you'll be good to go
