Hi guys, So first there seems to be a problem with my charging system, haven't fixed that yet but thought I would mention it. Second when I try to go in to 4 hi buy pushing the button the only thing that happens is my dash lights dim, rpm's lower by 500 for about 5 seconds then everything goes back to normal BUT it does not go in to 4 hi. what should I check 1st.
Thanks for taking the time to help me out guy's

I'm stuck on the same exact problem, minus the charging system issue. Everything dims for like 4-5 seconds, then gets bright again, but no 4X4. Has me thoroughly confused.

:bump:

Sounds like the 4x4 shift motor to me, the selector might be stuck between positions. Take off the electric motor and try to shift the transfer case between 4hi-n-4lo using a pair of vice-grips or pliers. The shifter should move pretty smoothly between the three positions. If that area is not binding, then you may have a problem with the shift motor. That issue is very well documented on this site as it is a very common issue and very easy to fix.

cool, ill give it a shot, let you know what happens.

4 x 4

If you don't exercise the motor it will get moisture in and freeze up and won't let the motor turn. The power board that controls the length of time the unit has to go into and out of gear causes the load on the electrical system and can be seen by the dimming of the lights.

here is the question of the hour, are these motors re-buildable?

Thanx ill take a look at that a soon as i have time and let you know, it is kinda wierd because i always use my 4x4, I used it one day and the next it stopped working very weird.

do i need to remove the transfer case to get at the motor or can i do a R&R with it where it is?
