Does anyone out there have the same problem I am having? this is happening quite often when I go to shut my radio/cd player off it stays on?????? I now have to press the button several times and then it will go off! Should I get a can of compressed air and blow out the unit or is this a deeper problem??

what kind of radio do you have? factory or aftermarket?

some radios call that a feature... i call it possessed by tupac. Some aftermarkets can be wired up to a door trigger and keep going after the key is off, then when you open the door, it shuts off the radio... most GM vehicles do that nowdays.

It is the factory deck!

I have a 2004 Eddie Bauer with the factory Satellite ready radio. I can shut the car off, pull the key and as long as I do not open the door, the radio will play for 15 mins. I am not sure how long this has been an option though. It should have been doing this as long as you have owned your Explorer.

Okay guys this is NOT an option!!!! I cannot turn the radio off when I want to and just now as I was coming home from work the radio button was in the off position and the radio was playing WITHOUT me even touching it!!! I had just started it and it was on. Explain that

radio or wires?

well i guess its time for u to look at a nice after market radio because ur thing just went there is no way ur radio should play without the key, most radios if not all have two sources of positive energy (12v) one yellow and one red the yellow has energy wether the key is in or not, the red one is activated by the key, im pretty sure its the radio because if u said that u turned it off and it keep making noice, i dont think thats not a good sign...

It does not play without the key I just have a hard time shutting the thing off! For some reason when you press the button it does not shut off sometimes it does then other times I have to press it several times to shut off. All while the key is in,as I am moving or have just shut the truck off and the key is still in it will still be playing while the off button is depressed!!!!!!!!!
Today I started it was driving down the road went to turn the radio up and realized the button was still pushed in, in the off position!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And I never turned the radio on

well its just the radio giving out, u should look at some aftermarket radios and replace it, u can get a nice radio for 120 to 200 bucks, just pull it out and trow it against a wall or something that will make u feel better  ;)

if u wanna replace the radio with a factory radio u can look it up on ebay i wouldnt go with the same radio twice but if thats what u want u can get it in ebay, ford has crappy sound either way the first thing i did to my truck when i got it was to replace the radio i got a 300 dollar Sony and i just love it

Agreed with FexplorerV8, that is a very strange and pecuilar situation from your Explorer... first time I've ever heard of ANYTHING like that happen. If money permits, consider purchasing a new CD player. It can be anything you want, but make sure it's a quality brand AND affordable. I bought a JVC KD-AR300 mp3 CD player for $100.00 USD, plus $21.92 shipping from ebay. You can find a vast number of good, affordable, and quality CD players if you search around. Installing the CD player may be a hassle financially and technically as you would have to re-wire the "pre-amp" from your "factory" radio which is very costly... plus add up car-kits and labor...

I had this problem with mine when I first got it. If you push the button in does it pop the whole way back out? Thats what mine did. It happened right after I got the vehicle so it was the dealers problem. I don't know what they did to it.

No the button stays in the off position but the radio still plays!!! I don't have the cash for an aftermarket deck and the exsisting one plays and sounds fine but I just have this strange problem with it????

Just turn the volume down the whole way then.

i had the same problem as iamtodd. would just turn it down like he mentioned. eventually got a new deck ;)

If you know someone or you yourself are comfy with a soldering iron and a screwdriver, you could pop the top on the radio and replace the knob. That's what sounds like is shorting out... Go figure, plastic and mechanical... Otherwise, yea, ebay a cheap cd player... can be had for under 100 bucks shipped. (not the greatest, but it'll work)

Delayed Accessory Feature

The feature that allows the radio to continue playing after the vehicle is shut off is known as "delayed accessory" - it keeps certain functions, such as the radio, power window switches, and moonroof switches active until any door in the vehicle is opened. Explorers from 1998-on have the feature, but the audio system was not added to the list until the launch of the 2002 model.

The problem described by c-dooXP girl is a radio malfunction that has occurred on some models of our factory radios. You will not be able to clear it with compressed air. The radio will need to be repaired or replaced.

Reviving an old thread, i guess that's what the search function does! Has anyone tried to add this to their vehicle or know how to? I would like to be able to shut my car off and still listen to the radio for 15mins, without the car running or turning the key to acc. Thanks.
