I also have a very week parking brake and would like to replace them. How tuff of a job is it to replace the shoes? Why couldn't it work from the pads like cars do?
Replacing the pads in there is very easy. Pads only cost around 20 bucks and it takes less than an hour to do the job. I did it a few months ago and it was much cheaper and easier than I thought it would be.
Dont know if its a silly question, but do they sell the shoes in sets of 2 or 4?? I mostly order online and that info is usually not given without having to call.
THe 2nd Gens use a dual system in the rear. It has both Disc (for regular braking) and drum (parking brake). It's a good idea to always check the shoes for the drum brakes at least once a year. SInce most people never use their parking brake these tend to be neglected. the parking brake operates exatly like the parking brakes on the older X's with rear drum brakes
