I think I may have found where my 65 mph vibration is coming from. Some of you here may remember awhile back when I first joined this site that I had an issue with my speedo jumping and my cruise would not work properly. After a lot of trial and errors, it tuned out that the problem was that the rear drive shaft nut was loose allowing the internal speedo gear to slip on the output shaft.
Present day:
I have been trying the easy quick fix for a 65 mph. vibrations. None of them worked.
So the only logical conclusion would be that the transfer case rear bushing is wore out. ( Yes, I checked the rear u-joints. No play in them.)
I picked up a used transfer case for $71 and it had a shift motor on it. Didn't think I got hurt even if it doesn't solve my problem. I removed the old transfer case tonight. It did have a minimal amount of vertical play. But what it had more of is a horizonal or in and out play.

What do you guys think?
By the way, now that I am cleaned up from my tranny fluid bath, LOL, I think I will change the tranny filter while all the fluid that is supposed to be in the tranny is now on the garage floor!!!!

I had the rear tires about 6" off the floor. Thought that would be enough. NOT!!!

Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks!
Mark

Well the diagnosis was correct. The new transfer case solved the vibration. I tried to follow the advise on here about putting the rear u-joint yoke back on in the same spot which is impossible due to the yoke is from a different vehicle. DOH!!!!

I don't think there is a wrong way to hook up the yoke anyways.

Good job.

In-out play is normal. Most transfer cases will have some in-out play, typically about an eigth of an inch. But yeah you were dead on, vertical or horizontal play is definitely not good.

Even though you swapped in a different transfer case that has solved the vibration problem, it may be wise to also have the driveshaft balanced. Other than the fact that your vehicle is about dozen years old :D, one of the reasons why a transfer case bushing/bearing may go out is due to an unbalanced driveshaft.

I truely think the reason for the worn bushing was due to the fact that the yoke nut was left loose by someone other than I. It is possible that by the time I found it and the time frame that it took to get things diagnosed and R/R the damage was done. I feel no vibration at all now.

Oh right, I forgot about that
