I just got a 98 Explorer XLT with 35,000 miles. There is a bad vibration when i accelerate. I already replaced u-joints...not it!!
I took it to a transmission guy I know. He thinks it is in the transfer case. It seems to go away when you put it in 4 wheel drive. It is almost like the auto sensor is kicking in then stops. It only happens with hard acceleration.
Also, I only get between 10 and 12 mpg. Is this normal?$$
Thanks for any help

Take a look at the engine mounts. Sometimes they forget to torque at the factory. Good luck.
