Stay with the OHV

Unless you really need more power I'd stay with the OHV. It's a pretty reliable engine for daily driving. I believe the main weakness is a tendency to overheat and blow head gaskets or crack the heads. If you require more power for towing or off road use I suggest that you just get your 97 running with another OHV, sell it and buy an Explorer with a V8. It's a lot of work to replace the OHV with an SOHC and the timing chains are it's weak point. Also, the 5R55E transmission is not very robust. The 5.0L V8 with 4R70W transmission is a very rugged combination with good power. Also, there are a lot more performance improvement options for the V8 than either V6.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply. Im a just looking to replace with a motor for everyday driving.

welcome

I'd go with another OHV and stay away from the SOHC.
