1995 Explorer transmission advice?

Hi All

Firstly, forgive me I am a real noob at this stuff.

We have a 1995 Explorer 4 door XLT 4 trac 4WD.
4L V6 engine
(1st year of the newer model)

The transmission went out on it.

Couple of basic questions.

(1) What transmissions will work with this model, I had read somewhere that other ford models had the same transmission?

(2) Could anyone recommend a dealer who supplies rebuilt transmissions for a reasonable price. I have a friend who say he can put it in.

You have the 4R55E.. That is the only factory stock transmission for a 96 automatic. Instead of buying a rebuilt one, I repairing/replacing the valve body and all solenoids. Refer to Glacier991's thread on the 5R55E/4R55E in the transmissions & transfer case section of this forum.
