ok i want to get a nice big tire after i get my sas installed(d44 & dics brake 8.8) with 4.88 or 5.13 gears. I was looking at the 39x13.5r15 irok bias since they are only $230 each. What do you think the tread life will be? what do you think is the mph limit? i know bias suck on the street but im just wondering. it will be my daily driver until next spring. so i need to see if it would be the right choice.

same questions for the 38x12.5r15 tsl bias? tread light(mileage)? mph speed limit?

39's as a daily-driver is a little ill especially in the city. Also, most people do not recomment going over probably 36" or 37"s tires on the Dana 44 front unless you do some serious internal change. maybe you should think about switching over to Hummer (h1) tires/wheels... unless your d44 is already an 8-lug, you need to swap out the d44's outers tho to an 8 lug pattern (8 on 6.5") - this pattern is commonly found on chevy D44s tho older Ford D44s did have such pattern too. H1 wheels are two-piece bead lock and the tires are often very cheap on e-bay. If you do decide to go this route, try to get the H1 wheels that have the 12 bolt bead lock instead of the 8 bolt.

Can the 8.8 handle 39"s in pretty extreme conditions. i read somewhere on here that they are good till 38"......is this so?
Can the 8.8 handle 39"s in pretty extreme conditions. i read somewhere on here that they are good till 38"......is this so?
I personally would say no the 8.8 shouldnt be used with 39" and 38"s would probably push it over the edge in high-torque conditions - you would probably need to replace the axle shafts and other things. But the issue isnt so much the 8.8 but rather the D44 as the D44 is the weaker between the two especially if its low pinion.

also you should think of the tire itself. its a bias, meaning harder to balance and wears worse than a radial tire, (they do make irok radials) i am looking at getting 36x13.5x15 irok radials when i regear, but for a dd I wouldnt go with bias tires. They just arnt meant for street. from what ive heard however, the irok radials wear very well. A 36" irok radial will run you around the same price, $230 a piece. Question is, how are you planning on fitting 39's? major trimming, ungodly lift?

with a true 38" or 39" tire i would go atleast 5.13's if not 5.38's. i put 38's on mine but in reality its really only 37.1" tall. i was worried that was getting too tall for 5.13's but it seems to work just fine. anyways i personally wouldn't put over 38's on a 44 (unless its just for show) and even then building it up is a good idea. i'd fork out the extra cash to get radials. the extra tread life over a bias will pretty much pay itself off in the long run. so when u think about it, its the smarter buy to go with a radial. so if u go with a radial... instead of the 39" irok bias, get the 39" irok radial. u want the 38" tsl bias, get the 38" tsl radial.

irok bias, tread life(mileage)? top speed?

im tryin to get a 36"+ for $200 each, and bias are the only ones i found for that price

Irok bias tread life = you'll wish you didn't buy them
TSL bias tread life = same as Irok

you said you'd run them until next spring.. that's maybe right, but you'll probably replace them before then because they will be bald.

look for used if you want to stay under $200 each.

39s on those axles will work on the street, but not if you ever actually wheel it hard.

well i want a 36"+ tire, maybe not 39's but like 37's

I was looking at bias ply's when it was time for tire shoping because of the price. I was looking at the Interco LTB's.

After doing some googling, I wouldnt recommend getting bias for a daily driver. They are awsome for things like rock crawling. The sidewalls & tread will act as 1 peice & conform very well to rocks which also makes handling on the street poor. Prolong highway use can cause them to heat up to the point they blow out as well.

Its likely youll get less than 20k miles out of them. One review I read on the LTB (33x12.50 on a jeep), it was half way worn @ 9k miles. I have no idea about how fast you can go.

heres a couple links for ya..

http://flashoffroad.com/features/Tires/tires_01.htm

Hope that helps. Look into the Interco Trxus STS or M/T's depending on what kind of wheeling you do. Ive seen them around $210 for like 35x12.5x16 & youll get 30k+ miles.

if you want a good 37" tire for 200 the ONLY way to go it to get a 37x12.5x15 MT/R. Look around, most places have them for 230 each but some have them for 200. Awsome road manners and treadlife, and good offroad performance.

also a 37" irok radial is only $240 or so a piece. its an irok like u wanted and its a radial so it'll outlast any bias ply. and its sorta around what u wanted to pay. really not that bad of a price or the super swamper ssr's 37x12.50 for $230 a piece
