'06 Explorer XLT V6
Finally there's a station in my area that selling E85 for $2.99 and regular around here is like $4.29 so that would be a good savings. I have a 06 Explorer XLT stock. Plan on getting a KKM Air intake soon for the 4.0L. I checked my vin it does not have a K in the 8th place it has a E. Should I try E85 or stay away? Thanks.

I would stay away from E85 if your Explorer does not have "K" as the VIN engine identifier. It will run it, but the seals and the computer in the "E" 4.0 are not designed to handle E85.

you can do it but I wouldn't.

I just filled up with E85 for the first time the other day. 3.36 a gallon when regular was 4.09. I got 15 mpg mixed driving. When I normally get 17mpg mixed driving.

a friend put e85 in his truck. drove his wifes car for 2 days, when he went to drive his truck he lost amost a 1/4 tank. asked his buddy who is a mechanic and said he lost it because of alcohol evaporation. so if you buy it you better use it. :thumbdwn::thumbdwn::eek:

E85 will not save you money. It maybe $1.30 a gallon cheaper but you will not get the same MPG. I get about 400-450 miles to tank im my 99 sport depending on how much city driving i do. I filled up with just a 10% blend and got about 360 mile the one tank and then 370 the next. went back to regular and got 415. Better for the environment yes but you want save money and if it did it would only be a few bucks a fill up vs what could happen and if ur still warranty it will void it.

where do you get your gas? here in augusta almost everything is a 10% blend no matter where you go. i'd rather run 100% gasoline instead of a ten percent blend any day.
