The WAR-153 shackle is 8.5" long (the only length for the explorer).. The 3 places I heard you can order it from is J.C. Whitney, Summit Racing, and Desert Rat.

ehhh ... 8.5 ? you mean 1.5 ?

they are 8.5" long. the stock shackles are around 5-5.5". The difference of 3" gives you 1.5" of lift.

no.. I mean 8.5" The stock shackles should be 5.5" long.. (I've heard of a 6.5" long one)..

If your stock one is 5.5" long there is a 3" difference.. or a 1.5" lift
If your stock one is 6.5" long there is a 2" difference.. or a 1" lift

ohhhh... i thought it was just an insert, not a replacement :)

does the extra length reduce the durability ? =/

They stock shackles are made differently than the WAR shackles.. The WAR shackles have a cross brace in the center and they are thicker metal.. the stock ones have a wider brade but are made of thinner metal (I think stamped)..

The increase in length may give you more "give" in the bushings but I would say they are any weaker than the stock ones.. You might even say they are stronger.. but I'm not a structural engineer..

ok, cool

hmm.. maybe I shouldn't reply as I'm trying to walk out the door at work.. That last replyalmost doesn't make sense.

i understood it, heh. Thanks

i measured my shackles and they are 5.5 so i should get a 1.5" lift. i just really need to decide if its worth it to do, because if i have to pay for an alignment plus a camber bearing ... alll for a 1.5 inch increas, i might as well wait till i can afford a real lift since i'll still need new tires =/.

also, wouldnt a new lift probably require me to replace that piece anyways ? resulting in a waste of 50 bucks

If you were to use coil spacers for the front or Progressive longer springs (1.5" longer max) then when you get your alignment done they can fix your camber then. They would most likely use camber adjustment bushings. It may not be exact but it should be within spec. and should only cost a little more than a normal alignment ($30 in extra parts).. I would go with an alignment shop that does lots of 4x4's.. We have a very good alignment shop in Tucson that people swear by but I would never take our lifted explorer back there.. They just don't understand lifted vehicles..

When you use a "real lift" you get drop brackets but even then you may need the camber bushings or different C bushings (to fix caster)..

yeah, i just meant i'd be wasting the shackle =/ what i think i'll do is call around to see if any places can have the part there quickly, so i'm not without a vehicle for too long =/
