water in air box

ok so i went mudding............ well kinda swimming in my rig like 2 weeks ago and i went to replace the idler pully .. so i took off the intake tube so i coue work with less junk in the way......... i took out the air filter lid and low and be hold my air filter curled up into a ball and was CAKED with dirt and mud......... has any one else had this problem? i dont know if its sucking it up through the tube that goes to the grill or what? scared me i dont wanna hydrolock the motor.... so i cut the air box.... so there isnt a "suction" type effect on that tube... then i am going to get a K&N filter and should i remove the MAF screen? and port the maf?

Do not remove the screen or port the MAF.

Remove the air box entirely and put a K&N cone filter on the end of the air tube. You might want to raise the air intake up a little too.

how would i raise the air intake?............ie out of hood?....... and removing the screens i have done on my sports car gave me a few at the rear........ but why not on the exp? i know dirt and such but......and a cone will not bolt to the maf.......

You don't want anything to disrupt the air flow of the MAF. It is calibrated from the factory to flow exactly how it is now. If you were to attempt to "port" it, it would throw the calibration off and you may actually lose performance and/or trip a CEL.

I meant raising the air intake a few inches with a home made design. I'm using a treated wood block the elevates the intake on my truck a few extra inches.

You can make or buy an adapter that will allow a cone to fit on the MAF. Search the site for more info.
