Is there a setting that turns off the double horn warning when you exit the vehicle when its still running? I've looked through MFT and couldnt find anything...might have overlooked it. It just gets annoying when I have to in and out of the car several times.

There is no way to disable it. It's a soon to be a federally mandated requirement.

I can see where that would be a very annoying item in various situations. I assume that you mean a U.S. federally mandated requirement. I hope they don't install that change in the Canadian version.

Just a suggestion, don't fully close the door. close it lightly to the 1st latch. It will not chirp the horn.

My 2013 4wd Limited does not honk the horn when I get out of the vehicle while running and close the door...

I always get a message in the notification center that "No Key Detected" when I exit the vehicle or get out to buckle my little one in.

Is this something new for the 2014's?

It actually does affect some 2013s, but not mine either. I have a friend whose 2013 Limited does this. They purchased theirs 9 months after me.

I found this conversation while searching for how to get my 2016 Limited to stop honking at me all the time. (I cannot believe they make everyone around me aware that I've done something "wrong". Drives me nuts.)

My car does this double honk, too. I have resorted to leaving the door open which resolves the problem.

On the other note, I get the notification that no key is detected all the time, while I'm driving with the key in my pocket. Pathetic. New batteries in the fob - terminals cleaned with solvent. Car won't start often at the first try due to this. Ford service suggested that they "just wear out after a few years". I doubt that and do not want to spend the money and end up with the same problem. Thoughts welcome.

What is it that you are doing that causes the honking? As for the double honking, I also would not close the door completely as well. That feature can be disabled with FORScan.
Do you have anything that is constantly plugged into the power or USB ports?

Hi Peter,
What caused honking other than the car running when I get out was a reported low tire. Still easily driveable. And it didn't always honk.

And yes, I have a USB phone charger plugged in to the "lighter plug", but it doesn't always have a phone attached. Ideas?

Good morning Rob. In re-reading your earlier post, I first thought that "terminals cleaned with solvent" referred to the vehicle's battery, but now I'm wondering if you were talking about the fobs. The fobs come with a dielectric grease on the batteries that helps conductivity. This grease should not be cleaned off.

As for the low tire pressure honking, I'm not sure that is even a feature of the Explorer. In checking the manual, there is no mention of an audible low tire pressure warning, only the visible warning.

Thanks, Peter. I see it now. I was written before the section for replacing batteries in other types of fobs, so I didn't see it when reading how to change the batteries for my Intelligent Access Transmitter.

You can turn the horn honk off in Forscan. I have turned every chime, ding, and horn honk off via Forscan. Praise the Lord. Forscan makes my car enjoyable to drive. Lol.

I notice that if you leave the door open when you step out it doesn't honk. Other than that I"ve been unsuccessful. But I recall a solution of some kind of software in the threat above - yes, Forscan.

The member you replied to was last seen here on July 24, 2013, so likely isn't around here any longer.
FYI, the 2023 Aviator I had just had a very soft chime when closing the door with the engine running. The 2025 Aviator makes no sounds at all under the same scenario. I found that rather odd.
