I have looked through the search and I have found situations close to my problem but not exactly, I think it has something to do with the transmission. After the car has been parked for a while, it has serious trouble getting in gear. I'll just press the gas pedal and it will still act like it is in neutral and then finally go. This will keep happening every time I stop the car (stop lights or stop signs) until I have driven for about 15 minutes then it gets better. I had the tranny serviced and that cleared everything up for about a week, now its worse than before. Whats going on here?

Check the tranny fluid, you may have a leak somewhere

When you say you got it serviced, do you mean you got someone to look at this specific problem or you just got the tranny oil changed?

Just got the oil changed

That was the first thing mine did before it cooked.Get it rebuilt now before you get stuck 50 miles out in the bush unable to go at all

Yep, what he said. Plus you have to pay for towing. Transmissions usually gives you little signs before they go but ones they go they leave you stranded where you are.

So that whole issue with the governor would not apply to me in this case?

with it not going into gear...when mine did it I ended up having to replace both of my u-joints because it would bang into gear real hard.(maybe because I gave it a little gas to try to get it in gear)If I would not have got it fixed it could have damaged my rear end too.

I have a 92 (rebuilt tranny) with the same problem although mine seems to do it when I back out and then shift into drive from a cold start. Cold weather seemed to cause it more as well. Just like yours, it's fine once it's warmed up. I spoke with an uncle who has been a master mechanic for over 20 years, described the problem in detail, and here's what he said. Fluid is not getting to all the parts of the tranny before I start to drive. Let it warm up and circulate the fluid. I now follow this advice and also make sure that I back into parking spaces whenever possible and the problem has all but vanished. I know the problem is not fixed, but I've been able to keep at bay for almost a year and it is my daily driver. Just my two cents. Best of luck.

Mine does the exact same thing. Trouble getting it into OD from park or reverse. but once it's in she shifts smooth through all the gears.

Have it in the shop and they did an estimate. Said that the main valve body needs to be replaced. Don't know the exact price though because they lumped it in with a t-case replacement. 4k...
