Gerald,
I assume that you saw the post that spiritw**f68 made in the "why no limited slip.." thread. you and Ray are to be commended for keeping level heads and not blasting that guy. anyway thanks for the info on the locker. looks like i have a present to request from santa. let us know how it goes.
have a good one.

i'll take one

Hey, Put me on the list for the front locker. I'll pay for it.

Chris

gerald where did u get that grille guard? i like it

You could always swap a front axle from a 95-96 with the vacuum disconnect and wire it manually to come on and off with a toggle switch. The only problem would be running a vacuum line down there.

FYI

Maybe we can petition OX Trac to make that cable operated locker for our front diffs? dunno what there pre order would be. hopefully not 75.. maybe 15 :) i wish..

Robert told me howto disable the control trac. Either pull the fuse or make a switch for the wire that goes to the shift solenoid. anyways check out the OX trac....

question about locker. do i need manual hubs for it to work. or will manual hubs do the job of the locker, except manual means manual and the locker you don't have to get out of your car? thanks guys.

Manual hubs don't matter in your case. You have a live axle, so you don't have hubs that lock and unlock.
Basically, hubs lock the wheel to the axle so they will spin. Basically, the locker goes in the differential and locks the two axle shafts together. If you had hubs, just putting in manual hubs wouldn't make both wheels turn at the same time. Make sense?

seems like gerald settled it in my mind. if the locker were to selectable like the OX or ARB then we wouldnt have any problems we would flip it on when needed but when we didnt say we needed to turn we could just turn it off yet still be in 4x4 with our open diffs. its early so i think im making an stuff. i would still ike to see a limited slip. im not as hardcore as you locker guys yet.

Put me on the list for the ARB if it will work with the IFS front on a '02 Ranger 4x4. Unless the Ranger no longer has the D35 also.

guy's...... I don't understand too much about the front system,I have an Eaten L/S in the rear,it's a fine enough unit for me in the back.
but I would like to get the same type of unit for the front,
and if I understand you guys, there isn't a locker yet made for our system, and if there was....we wouldn't be able to turn the wheel when it was engaged,we would have to turn off the locker to steer.

but if they made a L/S....wouldn't that let us steer under all conditions ?

thanks,

Limited slip is no good when you have bad traction or when one wheel is in the air. with mine in the rear sometimes i can hit brake and gas at same time to make it grab a lil more. but usually i end up spinning the tire and no forward motion. but for the front you want a selectable locker like the ARB. open or locked for best versatility and manuverability. especially since 95+ have no manual hubs.

oh and mcracco the Ford Explorer 8.8 is superior huh ;)

How about us with the AWD models. Would this help us. I have a 97 Mountaineer.

Yes.

Just throwing in my two cents worth, but, after reading all these threads, it would seem that the ability to install an L/S or locker comes down to what type of front axel the 95-01 Explorers really have. The only thing that everyone seems to agree on is that, contrary to the available literature, it ain't a Dana.

So... doesn't anyone have the contacts to find out what's really there?

One would hope that at least the folks at ARB or OXTrac know what it is, since they're looking to possibly supply that which many seem to want.

An Air locker sounds nice. Don't know that I would use it all that much, but I like gadgets. So count me in.!

Front Locker for 95

I will buy a locker if I'm sure it will work. If I lock the diff, what happens with the front axle disconnect that I see on the passenger side of the diff on my 95? Will it slip and undermine the security of the locker? If the locker will offer 100% locking capability I'm in!

Will it work with my existing 3.73 gears, or will I need to upgrade to 4.10 first.

Thanks,

Carlton Ward

It will have 100% locking capability assuming you are in 4-low. In 4-auto it will pulsate and grap when necessary.

Carlton,
To add to Jasons comment. You probably would never use your front locker in anything else other than in 4Lo. Hell I don't use my rear locker except where I think I might need it, other than that, It stays off, the I am in 4Lo.
Does this mean we can add you to the list?
