but i did find this guys.

its a 99 exploded view. havent found older ones yet.

hope it helps..

I'm interested on the L/S. It seems like a safer alternative to a full fledged locker. This would be safe for use to use without having to change the auto 4x4 right?

I'd like to know a little more about the Torsen differential. Like how does it react in rain and snow? How will it affect our full time 4wd and no hubs? I didn't find what I was looking for on their site.

Jason- I see you changed your sig. :D

soupbone, you are correct, the TrueTrac is VERY similar to the Torsen. I just had a discussion on the Mustang board about which to get for my Mustang. The TrueTrac is cheaper with almost no break in and the Torque Bias Ratio (TBR) stays about the same. The Torsen is more expensive and the TBR drops slightly after break in.
The TrueTrac runs about $300 now. TracTech just dropped the prices. The Torsen is about $389 for the T2.

Goodluck,
-Willie

Sorry if this sounds stupid:

but what are the major differences between manual hubs and a locker? Do they even make manual hubs for a 95+?

A locker locks your differential gears to turn both wheels with no slip. hubs lock your front axels to the diff. 95+ dont have manual hubs and nobody makes them. Its done in the t-case.

Thanks i wasn't thinking. After I posted that I thought about it and figured it out. Thanks.

I would be interested. Count me in. :bounce:

I am interested, need to talk to the boss first about the money.

Are we looking at about $6 bills? or less?

Is ARB trying to promote the front locker anywhere else? Realistically this forum is only a small fraction of the Explorer owners out there. I would think if there were 20 or 30 people alone on this forum that ARB could find at least a few hundred more by marketing it to the right crowd, as in 4x4 magazines, catalogs, and other websites...

I know that the vast majority of Explorer owners do not need a front (or rear) locker nor do they even stray from dry pavement, but I know that there are many 4wd guru's out there that don't post on this board. So, how can we (or ARB) find them?

Randy

(and yes, I'm developing interest for my '97...just have to wait and see)

hrmmm ok lets say we come up with 20 here and maybe another 10 on other ranger boards since they have the same diff... then get Randys Ring and pinion to pick up the rest :D and then advertise them on this website and forum? heh think that would work? somebody could make banners and such targeted at explorers... Need more offroad traction?? and such...
click here.... traction and lockers explained.. then where to buy.. randys R&P...bingo

Locker too much money or the wait to long?
To turn the front axle or any " single track" axle into a torque breaking axle ( like the clutch type ) this will work for moderate 4 wheeling not rock crawling. Here is the description of what to do:
Start in a clean work area
keep it clean
dirt is bad
the extra work on cleanlyness pays off
Remove the spider gears
Purchase a set of thrust washers ( from Ford or whoever )
Modify either the old or new set of washers ( you will be using both sets upon reassy)
- on 1 set you will need to remove the placement lip on the washer these will now be "shims"
- on the other set do not modify
reassy. install the spider gears with the unmodified washer against the gear and then the "shim" between the washer and the case.
you may have to thin the shims to fit ( sand the case side only! )
what you do to one side you have to do to the other
DO NOT USE EXTREME FORCE on the gears
do not hammer on them unless:nono: you have a brass punch!!
refill with a quailty Synthecic oil ( Amsoil 75W-140 )
YES there are pro's and con's to doing this
pro's- cheep, works, cheep, works well when you need a bit more traction, you shouldn't need to reset the ring and pinion, and it's cheep too
Con's- if you don't know what your doing you can mess it up, it adds more side load to the carrier, with the money you save you now add a skid plate, or take your girl to dinner and a mud bog.
Good luck,

I am going to try the above in a month or so so I am off this list for now.

Is that the same front end as the 98+ Rangers? If it is have you posted this where they (98+ ranger drivers) might see It?

Is this some kind of a GROUP Buy?.

No. We are trying to get enough owners who are willing to ante up the money for ARB to produce a front locker for us.

I'll buy one. Add me to the list
