When I turn the key to start my explorer, the engine does not sound like its more powerful self. It has a weaker feel to it, with a more noticable hesitation when I push on the accelerator. I really like my explorer, but I am a novice on this, so any help is appreciated.:us:

Are you getting a check engine light?

Did this develop suddenly, or over time?

As others will likely tell you, there are many possible reasons for the problem you're having. It could be a timing issue, partially blocked exhaust system, fuel filter, failed sensor, etc. Hopefully you're getting some codes logged in the ECU. For around $35 you can purchase a code reader. Mine has saved me lots of $$$.

If you don't want to buy a reader, there's a great thread on pulling the codes manually using the paperclip method: How to: Pull trouble codes on a 1st Gen Explorer

This is how I learned to do it. The codes are all linked in that thread, too. So a reader isn't really required if you don't want to.
