I was woundering what the max. weight I couldput in the back of the explorer. Mind you I have a 3"bl, shackels, 33's. Im woundering this becuase I have a few realy heavy items I need to move, and need to know the weight that would be safe to travel for about 2 miles.

The sticker inside your drivers side door will tell you the stock load range for each axle. As far as mods, no one can tell you what your truck could haul since it is not really stock. Although I would say if the items are really heavy spend the 20 bucks rent a trailer and spare your truck from the abuse. Of course you would need a towbar, or the bumper hitch if the items and trailer total under 1500

FWIW, if it's a second gen, the bumper is rated for 3500 lbs, not 1500.

As for the hauling capacity, it all depends... I know 300 lbs of trailer tongue weight loaded the back end of my Sport to within 50 lbs of the gross axle weight rating.... all together, it was probably around 550 lbs of extra weight on teh rear axle IIRC.

thanks for the clarification, I guess I never really trusted those bumper mounts and haven't looked at the rating on a bumper for years. I always just install a hitch on everything. 3500 lbs seems like a lot of stress for a bumper ball though
