I'm starting to look into a 2nd genertation X since I decided to send my 92 X to the scrapyard and I'm really interested in lifting one. How much impact does lifting and larger wheels have on the tow capacity? I sure there is an impact!

Lifting it won't have an effect on the towing capacity but adding larger tires will. The larger diameter and extra mass of the tire will basically have the same effect as numerically lowering your gear ratio. Dead Link Removed is a calculator that you can use to see how different size tires will impact your final gear ratio. For example if you have the stock size (28.9") tires on with a 3.73 final gear ratio and you put 33" tires on then it will be about the same as if you had stock tires and a 3.27 gear ratio. Therefore you would only have the towing capacity of a truck with those gears.

Thanks, I'm kicking myself now that I see that simple formula. Makes sense.
