I have a 96 exploder 4.0,all through the winter no problems,as soon as it got hot out(not mornings or evenings though)it runs for a while than wants to stall,if I pull over and pour a gallon of water on the top of the engine and l sit for 10 min it will start back up and run for about 45 min before having to repeat the process.
I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, antifreeze, thermostat, radiator cap.It acts like vapor lock because of it stalling and not wanting to start when hot and then pouring water on it cools the fuel rail, and it starts up.
So I guess my Question would be,Is it vapor lock,is there something else causing this, could my intake manifold not getting enough coolant?I really need some help with matter! :exp:

Two suggestions; get an inexpensive fuel pressure guage and check the fuel pressure with the engine cold and when it dies and try exchanging the fuel pump relay with another one in the relay box, it could be the relay going bad.

But why when you pour water on the intake it will start back up?that is what don't point towards the fuel pump or relays,I will change relays and check fuel pressure though.

yikes... "pouring water" on a hot engine.... that ain't going to be good eventually. Put your bucket away and get out your meter and start checking things along the fuel circuit path as suggested. At the very least, get a long piece of wire and run a direct connection to your battery to JUST PAST the inertia cutoff switch to be sure your pump is running... it might be a better temporary "solution" IF powering your fuel pump is an issue.

clean the IAC.
