Every time I get a little mud up under my 2000xlt I have huge issues shifting until I wash the undercarriage. Couple weeks ago I was out on some ranch land and had to cross a river soon as I got across my transmission wouldn't shift out of first, we were 60 miles from the nearest town so I had to drive it in 2nd gear te whole way there. Even after washing it I have a little transmission slug when it comes to shifting gears. My car isn't flashing the o/d light and the transmission is not giving off a code. Any one have an idea of whats going on? I have a 2000 xlt 4.0 sohc with an automatic transmission. Thanks guys

First thing would be to do a run-up on the Digital Transmission Range sensor...then check all the other connections, clean and pack with dielectric grease.

On the driver's side of the transmission case, where the shift linkage is. The specs can be found in most repair manuals.
